'Unlearn traditional marketing techniques for online success'

Monday, 18 August 2008

Businesses looking for success in the internet marketing sector should first "unlearn" certain aspects of traditional forms of marketing, an expert has said.

David Meerman Scott of EContent magazine said that the two forms of marketing are "dramatically different" and so it is necessary to forget many of the techniques picked up in the traditional marketing domain.

He advised marketers to unlearn what they know about marketing measurement as it can be more beneficial to track how the company's ideas spread online rather than counting leads and press clips.

Furthermore, marketing professionals should forget the notion that the company's products are of value to everyone as "nobody cares about your products and services except you and the others in your organisation".

Last year, William King, director of the Wholesale Drop Shippers & UK Wholesalers Directory and other online contact lists, advised that a "judicious mix" of online and offline marketing is the best approach to take when promoting goods and services, according to Ezine Articles.ADNFCR-1453-ID-18735780-ADNFCR
