PPC-style video ad service launched on YouTube
Friday, 14 November 2008Google has unveiled a new video internet marketing service for YouTube.
YouTube Sponsored Videos allows clip creators to bid for placements via an online auction, with the placements charged on a cost-per-click basis.
These sponsored videos are then placed alongside search results on YouTube where relevant. The move comes after a raft of advertising tests and experiments on the site undertaken by Google to generate more revenue from its investment.
Currently, the service is only available in the US but is expected to be rolled out in other areas in the future.
"Just as AdWords provides people with relevant, non-obtrusive advertising, we hope that Sponsored Videos will provide useful, engaging content, accessible to advertisers of all kinds," said YouTube product manager Matthew Liu in a post on the Official Google Blog.
About 13 hours of new video content is uploaded to YouTube every minute, according to the video-sharing site.
Users watch hundreds of millions YouTube videos every day.
