Longer YouTube clips 'could boost ads'

Thursday, 19 June 2008

Video-sharing website YouTube is dabbling in longer-form clips in an attempt to attract more advertisers in the internet marketing sector, it has been claimed.

According to a Fortune magazine report, a growing number of videos on the Google-owned site are significantly longer than the standard length of several minutes.

The publication said that it is likely more such videos will appear on the site in the near future as Google attempts to wring more revenue out of the web property, which saw four billion video views in the US during April alone, according to recent comScore figures.

"[Displaying longer videos] would enable YouTube to offer more ads per view," Richard Doherty, director of consultancy Envisioneering Group, told Fortune.

Eric Schmidt, chief executive of Google, recently told the New Yorker that the search engine has not yet figured out a way of making significant profits from YouTube.ADNFCR-1453-ID-18645703-ADNFCR
