Expert offers advice on alternatives to banner ads
Tuesday, 2 September 2008Internet marketing executives who are seeking viable alternatives to banner ads have a host of options at their disposal, an expert has said.
According to Harry Gold of ClickZ, while banner ads can offer certain branding elements, other types of ad can provide significant benefits to internet marketing campaigns.
These include text links that can appear in vital spots above the fold, pay-per-click in-text link ads, sponsored search, advertorials and ads that appear alongside applications on popular social networking site Facebook, he explained.
Newsletter sponsorships, static in-video ads and advertising splash pages were also cited by the expert as having potential.
"Look for the newsletters where you can get a text or text and image combo sponsorship at the newsletter's top ... They tend to perform very well, you get a lot of real estate for copy and they hang around for a long time in a person's inbox," Mr Gold remarked.
Last month, comScore released statistics showing that Microsoft was the top US display advertiser during the month of June.
