Carat expands internet marketing outlook
Thursday, 28 August 2008The amount of money set to be spent on internet marketing will grow at a faster rate than more traditional forms of advertising in 2008 and 2009, according to media agency Carat.
Revising previous predictions for the global advertising sector in general, the company said that the internet will outpace other marketing channels significantly in the near future.
While it anticipated a lower than expected expenditure level for the overall advertising industry, it revised its forecast for internet advertising upwards, predicting that the format will account for 8.6 per cent of all ad spending this year and 9.8 per cent in 2009.
"With search now central to the planning and execution of any campaign, online media brings a greater level of accountability not just to itself but to TV, print and other forms of advertising," commented Aegis Media chief executive Jerry Buhlmann.
The report follows a recent study by StrategyEye Digital Media indicating that a significant proportion of firms intend to invest in digital channels such as mobile and social media in spite of the tightening economy.
