Advergaming 'an effective way to reach consumers'
Wednesday, 27 August 2008Incorporating advertising messages into online games can be an effective way for businesses to reach potential customers, it has been suggested.
According to the casual gaming website Multigames.com, so called advergaming can help companies get their internet marketing messages across in a fun and memorable way.
Popular games may be added to blogs or social networking sites and brands and products can be promoted through viral spread.
And if a game is fun to play, consumers are more likely to remember the brand and associate positive attributes with it.
"I am not sure if marketing departments are using the full potential of viral spread of advergames yet," said Christian Lovstedt, chief executive of Multigames.com.
"You can attract a lot of attention to your product by letting the game transport itself virally over the internet," he explained.
Wyeth Ridgway, co-founder of Leviathan Games, told Brandchannel.com that branded video games provide much more scope for consumer interaction and involvement than traditional television adverts.
