2009 'to bring changes for internet marketing sector'

Friday, 7 November 2008

Next year will see a number of new trends and changes that internet marketing professionals should take note of, according to a new report.

The Online Marketing Trends in 2009 report from digital consultancy Strange predicted that there will a greater focus on conversion optimisation and qualitative analytics as a result of the downturn.

Keyword inflation will remain high as a growing number of companies move to the digital platform, it added.

Furthermore, the rise of user-generated content and possible changes to Google's search algorithm are also likely to impact on website design, Strange said.

Paul Honey, managing director of Strange, said: "2009 is going to be an interesting year."

According to the European Interactive Advertising Association, most Europe-based marketers believe that spending on internet marketing will grow by 16 per cent next year.

More than eight in ten organisations have already increased online advertising expenditure this year, according to the report.
