Top three search engines see growth in September
Tuesday, 28 October 2008Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft's Live Search all saw the number of US queries conducted on their respective websites grow year-on-year in September, according to new figures.
Published by Nielsen Online, the research showed that Google searches rose by 20.8 per cent to number more than 4.8 billion, while Yahoo! queries increased by 1.5 per cent to almost 1.5 billion and Live Search queries grew by 7.1 per cent to more than 953.5 million.
Overall, American web users conducted almost 8.1 billion online searches in September, representing an increase of 9.4 per cent compared with the same month last year, search engine marketing professionals may like to note.
In terms of market share, Google held almost 60 per cent of the market, while Yahoo! had 18.1 per cent Microsoft saw 11.8 per cent.
Other search engines that appeared in the top ten included AOL, Ask.com, My Web, Comcast and AT&T Worldnet.
Google sites represented the most visited online properties in the US during September, according to recent figures from comScore.
