SEM expenditure predicted to rise
Wednesday, 3 September 2008Spending on search engine marketing will increase by almost a quarter this year compared with 2007, a new report has suggested.
According to E-consultancy's Search Engine Marketing Buyer's Guide, expenditure will rise 24 per cent to reach £2.75 billion by the end of 2008, Precision Marketing reports.
Paid search will see an increase in spending of 23 per cent, while organic optimisation will surge by 32 per cent, the report indicated.
Chris Lake, editor-in-chief of E-consultancy, noted that this growth is lower than has been seen in the last few years, however.
"Economic concerns will affect the overall ad industry and search isn't entirely immune from a dip in budgets," he explained.
"Marketers and agencies are savvier than ever, so scope for growth in return on investment is limited."
Media agency Carat recently predicted that online advertising will continue to grow at a faster pace than certain traditional marketing channels, despite the threat of an impending recession.
