Search engines 'satisfactory' for most internet users
Thursday, 4 September 2008Most web users are satisfied with the services offered by the major search engines, according to a new Canadian study.
Two-thirds of those polled by Ipsos Reid said they thought the search results they saw were objective, with three-quarters stating that they were usually able to find the information needed on the first search engine results page.
Despite this, the research indicated that more could be done to improve the perception of paid search engine marketing, as more than six in ten said they were sceptical about the medium - something that may be a carryover from the days of paid results being integrated into organic listings, according to Ipsos Reid's Mark Laver.
But he added: "The measures search engines have taken to place advertisements away from regular search results is proving to be very pleasing for the online community and may change opinions of paid search advertising in the coming years."
More than 94 per cent of all paid search budgets were spent on Google products in Europe, the Middle East and Africa during the first quarter of 2008, according to research from Covario.
