Basics 'essential' to successful websites
Tuesday, 2 September 2008Businesses wanting to enhance the promotion of their websites would do well to look at the basics first, according to one expert.
Chris Lake, editor-in-chief of E-consultancy, said that looking at how to get started with search engine optimisation and other elements such as videos and blogs can be a good way of beginning an extensive online marketing campaign.
He noted that this can be a particularly beneficial way to start out on the online channel for those with small marketing budgets.
"Read up on how to make your site search engine-friendly and, if you can afford it, look at employing a search agency or a search expert in-house," Mr Lake stated.
He went on to suggest that businesses look at blogs and videos to see if they can emulate the success of those who have seen their content rise in popularity on websites such as Yahoo! Buzz, Digg and YouTube.
Companies may also want to look at those websites deemed to be the best in the UK by websiteoftheyear.co.uk - according to the site, the likes of Auto Trader, Liverpool FC and the Royal Bank of Scotland were among those with the highest quality sites last year.
