Online lead generation 'becoming more important'
Wednesday, 15 October 2008The online medium is becoming increasing important to firms engaging in lead generation activities, according to a new survey.
Carried out by CSO Insights for LeadLife Solutions, the poll of 298 business-to-business organisations showed that email, online ads, search optimisation and paid search are being used by up to three-quarters of firms for online lead generation.
Technology is playing a bigger role in helping businesses to manage their leads, with 51 per cent using specific software platforms to do so, according to the research.
However, the study also showed that more needs to be done to convert leads obtained through marketing into sales, as just 38 per cent of leads are followed through to this final stage.
Jim Dickie, managing partner at CSO Insights, explained that the poll showed many firms are still resorting to old-fashioned lead generation techniques.
"Unfortunately, these archaic methods are putting many companies in challenging positions when it comes to properly cultivating leads and proving the value of marketing programs," he added.
More than eight in ten UK firms believe business-to-consumer online lead generation is a channel that will become more important to them in the near future, according to an E-consultancy report.
