US email marketing usage on the rise
Monday, 27 October 2008The Retail Email Blog's latest index on the use of email marketing in the US rose by four per cent last week.
According to the new figures, the index reached 227 in the week ending October 24th, representing a high for the year to date.
The top 100 internet retailers tracked by the Retail Email Index each sent an average of almost 2.3 promotional messages during the period, with activity spiking on Friday.
"Usually Friday is the fourth most popular day of the week to send retail emails, but because Halloween is a week away, that boosted Friday's numbers," Chad White of the Retail Email Blog noted.
Despite this, references to the Christmas period outnumbered those for Halloween in email marketing messages last week. Some of the most popular topics mentioned by retailers in their emails included coats, scarves, winter, parties and entertaining.
A recent survey conducted by JupiterResearch for ExactTarget suggested that the 18 to 34 age group is more likely to be influenced by email marketing than social media when it comes to making purchases.
