Small firms 'relying on email marketing for Xmas'
Tuesday, 28 October 2008The majority of small businesses in the US are focusing on using email marketing to increase sales over the Christmas period, new research has revealed.
A survey conducted by Constant Contact found that 60 per cent of small firms said they most relied on email marketing during the festive period, exceeding those who said they depended upon direct mail, flyers and advertising.
More than four in ten respondents also stated that they believed email marketing had the greatest impact on sales in the run-up to Christmas.
The poll also found that small businesses intended to deploy aggressive marketing campaigns overall in the next few weeks, with three-quarters planning last-minute offers and holiday promotions and 53 per cent looking to start their Christmas marketing earlier this year.
"Email marketing and online surveys are catalysts to the success of small businesses in any economic environment, but they can make the critical difference in trying times," said Gail Goodman, chief executive of Constant Contact.
A recent study by SLI Systems suggested that email marketing is one of the top three technologies that online retailers believe to be the most beneficial for their promotional efforts.
