Email marketing list prices 'falling'

Monday, 6 October 2008

US email marketing list prices are starting to drop as the economy continues to slow, new statistics have suggested.

Figures from Worldata's Fall 2008 List Price Index show that the biggest price drops in the first nine months of 2008 were in the permission-based email business-to-business category, DMNews reports.

Other types of list that saw significant price declines included business-to-consumer lists, while the attendees/members, consumer book buyers and public sector categories experienced the smallest drops.

Despite the falls, some email marketing executives have said they are feeling positive about the sector in the long-term.

"Mailers are being much more careful about what they're mailing and how much they're mailing because of their own bud¬gets. I've seen these economic cycles before and it does turn around," commented Statlistics vice-president Kayle Plotkin.

In the UK, a recent E-consultancy report suggested that spending on email marketing will rise by an estimated 24 per cent this year compared with 2007.
