Email marketing 'has control advantage' over social network campaigns
Tuesday, 18 November 2008Email marketing has an advantage over direct marketing campaigns run on social networking websites in the way that it is easier to manage, an expert has suggested.
DataTalk Research's Mike Hare appeared to say that businesses cannot control social network advertising as well as they can other forms of direct marketing, such as mail, print and broadcast.
"[With] every other medium you can choose to use as a marketing channel you can virtually control the positioning of adverts," the research director remarked, implying that one of the key benefits of email marketing is that "you can control the date mail is dropped".
According to July's Marketing Responsivity Index - for which DataTalk surveyed 1,000 people - direct marketing is likely to receive a better response from consumers in the future.
The index demonstrated a positive score of 76 per cent for the month, an increase of 11 percentage points from June.
