Email list building tips for small firms
Thursday, 18 September 2008Advice has been given to small businesses looking to build their email marketing lists.
Speaking to Business Zone, James Miller of Premiere Global recommended that firms begin by collecting email addresses every time a customer interacts with the company in question and offering the chance to opt in to a newsletter.
Placing a sign-up box on the company website and adding site links to physical literature can also be helpful, he explained.
"[You could] even get your sales people asking prospects whether they are happy to be entered into the monthly newsletter," Mr Miller stated.
"This counts as an opt-in, providing you record it in some manner."
Other ways of building an email marketing list include inserting refer-a-friend links in emails to existing subscribers and offering incentives for signing up, such as discounts, according to a recent blog post by Graham Charlton of E-consultancy.
He also advised that businesses ask for some details to make messages more relevant, although they should avoid requesting too much data as this can be off-putting for consumers.
