Compelling emails in Xmas season 'more vital than ever'

It is more important than ever to come up with engaging email marketing messages in the run-up to Christmas, according to one expert.

Aaron Smith of the Email Insider blog said that marketers should look carefully at how the different sections of an email can work best as the festive shopping season gets underway.

This can include using long, descriptive subject lines that promote big offers such as free shipping and placing relevant links and messages in the navigation section, he explained.

Displaying products by category - such as gifts for mothers and gifts for husbands - can also help consumers sort through the offers available, while refraining from cramming the message with too much information is also advisable, Mr Smith stated.

"Reward your subscribers with well thought-out, customer-friendly messaging and they are likely to reward you in return with their loyalty and patronage," he remarked.

According to the Retail Email Blog, over a quarter of the biggest online retailers have already sent an email marketing message that makes reference to this year's holiday season.
