Christmas email marketing campaigns 'being stepped up'

Monday, 10 November 2008

US businesses are intensifying their email marketing campaigns as the Christmas period looms closer, according to new figures.

Collected by the Retail Email Blog, the figures showed that references to Christmas-related terms in promotional emails doubled in the week ending November 7th.

Other terms referred to in retailers' emails included elections, coats, boots, winter, holiday meals and parties, according to the research.

In total, the top 100 online retailers in the US sent almost 2.4 emails each on average over the course of the week.

A less than one per cent increase in the Retail Email Index was recorded by the Retail Email Blog, allowing it to reach a new year-to-date high of 236.

Earlier this year, a report by E-consultancy predicted that 2008 spending on email marketing in the UK is likely to equal the 24 per cent growth rate seen in 2007 in spite of the economic downturn.
